I bet that you have not left a wedding without receiving a wedding favor of some sort.  Ok, let me rephrase that.  I bet that the bride and groom intended on giving you a favor but whether you left the event with it or not may be up for debate.

Why is that?  Why are favors given in the first place and what are some of the reasons guests leave them behind ? 

Wedding favors can be seen in recorded history back in the 16th century.  However in Europe, especially France and Italy they were commonly called "bonbonnieres" or "bomboniere".  These were not just given for weddings, but at parties, birthdays and other celebrations the hostess/host would present a small gift to their guests.  Back then, it was common to give small hand made crafts like ribbons
